The Fox and Hounds Cheswardine Fun Run

The Fun Run has developed over a long period of time. It is generally accepted that it began in 1999 as an initiative to have a day of fund raising at the Fox and Hounds Cheswardine. The run is held on the last Sunday in June, is over a 5-mile course and has always been promoted as a village family event, with participants encouraged to run, walk, or cycle the course.

Winning categories include Under 16, Adult male and adult female.

Money raised is donated to Village causes and a National Charity on a 50/50 basis. Over the years all Village groups have benefited. A selection of charities includes Air Ambulance, Diabetes UK, Children with Cancer, Macmillan Nurses, Hope house hospice, The Alzheimer’s Society. The list goes on but normally the charity is chosen as a result of someone in the village having received help from one of the nominated groups.

The Fun run has not kept an ongoing figure, accounts are released on a yearly basis, but it is estimated many tens of thousands of pounds have been raised and distributed.

Normally an artisan Christmas market is held each year in St Swithun’s Church. The next one will be in 2022 on the first Saturday in December.

Monthly quiz nights have been developed and held at the Fox and Hounds.

The Fun Run funded and organises the Village Christmas tree and lights which is always a signal that the festive season has begun. We look forward to many more fund-raising years.
