About us:

Cheswardine Community Shop was opened in 2010 after the last village shop sadly closed its doors.

We operated successfully from the small old wash house next to the Fox and Hounds pub for over 10 years.

Due to the continued success of the shop, particularly valued by the community during the pandemic, we decided we wanted a permanent premises to secure the future of the shop and we finally found this at the Parish Hall.

We have established ourselves as a hub of the village where people can meet and chat and buy a range of provisions.

The Shop offers a wide range of basic groceries including dairy and frozen food, greeting cards, stamps, pet food and cleaning products.

Where possible we buy Local including free range eggs from Ross’s Eggs, meat from Shepley’s, bread from Bloomers of Wem, gingerbread from Market Drayton, hand raised pork pies from Powells, frozen food from Fordhall farm and Fields kitchen, honey from Buntingsdale.

Also locally sourced fruit and vegetable boxes, newspapers and magazines are available to order.

Customers can request extra items to order.

Order forms are available in the shop for bread, meat, pork pies, vegetables , newspapers and magazines.

You can always be sure of a warm welcome in Cheswardine Community Shop as a shopper or volunteer.

We are always looking for new volunteers.

VOLUNTEERS WELCOME

A Community Shop could not function at all if it was not for the volunteers. We are fortunate to have a great team of around 40 volunteers who give up some of their time to either help behind the scenes or serve in the shop and thus ensure the continuing success of the business.

There is a wide range of jobs that need doing, some on a daily basis , some occasional. We have something to suit anyone with a little time, who would like to help keep us going.

Volunteers regularly say that they have got to know many more of their neighbours and fellow villagers since working in the shop and how much they have benefitted from the experience. We are a friendly bunch and have occasional volunteer get-togethers.

The more people who volunteer, the easier it becomes to share the duties .

Full training is provided and new volunteers will always work alongside more experienced colleagues until they are comfortable in their role.

If you do feel able to volunteer, and would like to contribute in this way, or if you feel you can be of assistance in any other way, please pop into the shop and make yourself known to us, or go to the contact page and call or send us a message. We would be delighted to hear from you, and we’re certain that you won’t regret it!
